The idea of fixing up cars has been around just about as long as there have been cars to work on. Make them faster, make them shine brighter, make them more comfortable and everything in between has been done to cars. And it doesn't matter what type of car it happens to be or how old it is. It doesn't have to be a sports car. It can be a tired old station wagon, a mini van, a pickup truck, a compact car and everything in between. If it has wheels, with the right car parts and some time and work, you can dress up just about any ride.
With older cars, fixing them up can be a little challenging. With newer cars, there are plenty of option you have to dress up the interior and exterior of the car. You can improve the performance or at least make it look like its fast as lightening. With older cars, things are a bit different.
Depending on the car, you might find more than your fair share of after market performance parts. In addition you'll probably find plenty options to dress up you car as well. These options tend to be most plentiful in certain import cars as well as several lines of sports cars as well.
For older, less synonymous cars, like a 2000 Dodge Caravan for example, fixing up a car like this one could present some unique and challenging problems. You are likely to find a significant lack of performance car parts for this particular model of vehicle. You might find plenty of car panels to do some crash repair, but not much in the line of performance parts. Perhaps some of the more outlandish Internet sites and specialty shops might have some parts to fit this vehicle, but overall, that will be about the extent of it.
What that means is that you will either need to find parts that are interchangeable or you will need to modify existing performance parts to fit your needs on that particular vehicle. Either option is not for the novice. You will need to know what to look for are you wanted to mix and match car parts for an older vehicle. In order to modify parts, you will really need a good grasp on mechanics and in some cases, advanced engineering.
However, if you can find your way through all that, it's likely that you will have a one of a kind car whose likeness will never be seen again. After all, who could possibly imagine a lowered chromed out 2000 Dodge Caravan with a cool racing strip and a growl of some serious horsepower coming from underneath the hood.
Perhaps that's the beauty of it. Take an older car, dress it up with some performance grade car parts and turn an unlikely and unassuming vehicle into something that will turn heads everywhere you take it.
