How to Select Best Pressure Washers for Mobile Auto Detailing Business?

Auto detailing businesses have the potential to earn competitive rates as long as they have the right equipment. Mobile auto detailing, where the auto detailer travels with their equipment to the client's location, is one of the fastest growing small businesses in the US. In addition to great income generation potential, mobile auto detailing also allows enormous flexibility with regard to scheduling and work hours. The owner can take up mobile auto detailing as a part time business while dedicating most of the week to their regular job, schooling, or other priorities.

No matter how lucrative the business opportunity, you need the best car wash equipment if you plan to make a substantial income off this venture. One of the most important pieces of equipment is a pressure washer. There are many different variations of pressure washers on the market, making the selection process difficult. Here are a few tips to assist you in the task.

Auto Detailing Machines Are Powerful and Long Lasting

Many pressure washers sold on the market are not built to withstand high temperatures and pressure levels. Without the use of heat and adequate pressure levels, vehicle cleaning is incomplete. Many auto cleaning machines exceed the recommended pressure levels of 1500 psi for cleaning vehicles, creating risk for vehicle cleaning. Look for machines sold through reputable dealers who retail pressure washers specifically for auto detail cleaning. If other car detailing businesses are happy with their pressure washers, it is likely that you will also enjoy using their car wash machines.

A car pressure washer should have sturdy, corrosion resistant parts. Stainless steel heating devices are far stronger than aluminum ones. Similarly, the auto detailing machine housing should be built of stainless steel (powder coated steel is corrosion-proof and does not chip). The nozzle should also be constructed of stainless steel and the hose should be specially designed to withstand high pressure (garden type hoses will not last).

High Temperatures Are Recommended

High temperature dissolves grease, petroleum derivatives, soapy scum, and many types of dirt. Therefore, you should invest in a car pressure washer that utilizes water at high temperatures. There are some car wash machines that can generate temperatures as high as 250°F.

Mobility

A mobile car wash requires machines that can be transported to the work site easily. These pressure washers should be compact, lightweight, and should easily fit on a trailer.

Power Method

Fixed location car wash businesses usually prefer electric car wash machines. Mobile car wash businesses, however, need to consider the fact that electricity is not always available at work location. They can choose a gasoline, propane, or diesel powered pressure wash machine. The only drawback is that these machines cannot be used indoors without sufficient ventilation. However, if most of the work will be done outside, this is not a concern.

The advantages offered by auto detailing pressure washers make them the best investment for a car wash business. Only purchase from reputable suppliers to ensure you get the best products for your needs.

Auto Detailing - Mistakes to Avoid When Ordering and Purchasing Professional Detailing Supplies

Indeed, I probably had the best time of my career running a mobile car washing and detailing business. It was quite exhilarating and fun, and our customers loved us. You see, out in California everyone loves their car, and being able to take care of someone's pride and joy and make it sparkle puts a smile on everyone's face, and quite a few tips in the hands of my crew. Okay so, let's say that you are considering starting a mobile detailing company. I don't blame you, it's a fun thing to do, but I suppose I should give you a little bit of advice on which products you buy and use.

First, I hope you won't fall for any of those products on television because very few of them live up to their promises, and most are just gimmicks and trinkets. Next, I hope you don't buy your detailing products from the retail shelves just because it has the manufacturer's name that you most prefer. You see, many of these companies have strong brand names, but they also have consumer-based products, and they are not the same as the Professional Detailing Supplies they sell to the industry.

Yes, they have the same brand name, and nice packaging, perhaps even more enticing packaging that you get from the professional detail supply warehouse, or the mobile brand which sells products for auto detailers, but still, they are not the same. Next, if you hire detailers to work with you that have experience, chances are they have certain types of products they like to use, and they use them in such a way to get the best results.

You'd be surprised that if you put five exceptional detailers in a room, all of which have been in the industry for over a decade, every one of them will prefer different types of products and supplies. This is quite common, and you should understand that. Using the wrong type of product; for instance waxes and leather, rubber, and vinyl dressings will not give you the results you're hoping for. Indeed, it can cause you to use more product than you need to, and let's not forget these products are quite expensive.

In fact the prices have increased over the last two decades almost triple, and I don't see where they might be coming down in price anytime soon. I hope you will take these tips, suggestions, and advice and consider it when ordering and purchasing your detailing supplies for your new company. Please consider all this and think on.

How to Assess Your Mobile Detailing Competition

Before you go and start a mobile detailing company or a mobile car wash you must assess your competition. Before retirement, I was in the franchising business and I founded a company which franchised mobile detailing units and mobile carwashes in 23 states. Indeed, I would often ask franchise buyers to look around in their area and see what sort of competition they had.

The last thing I wanted to do would be to sell a franchise into a small town which had 4 or 5 operators which had been in business for 10 or 20 years, and several hand carwashes perhaps at an old gas stations within the town. It's not that I was afraid of the competition, more so I was afraid that our franchisee might have a tough time breaking into the business as an unknown. Yes, we had developed a brilliant marketing plan, but that's beside the point (besides that's my opinion, and in business you always need a reality check).

If a franchisee could only squeak in by the skin of his teeth to afford the equipment and franchising free, then he wouldn't have the extra money to market to get himself well-known fast enough to compete with entrenched competitors. Okay so, how you go about assessing the competition for your future mobile detailing business? Well, I believe this is one of the most important parts of the business plan, and I do believe you should create a business plan before you start.

First, it makes sense to find who the legitimate competitors are by going to City Hall and getting a copy of the list of everyone that has a business license in the various categories such as;

1. Auto Detail Shops
2. Carwashes
3. Mobile Auto Detailers
4. Mobile Carwashes
5. MLM Dry Wash Companies

Next, it makes sense to go into the phonebook and see who is advertising in the Yellow Pages. It also makes sense to drive by and check out your competitions facilities, and take a look at their equipment. Are they serious about running their business, do they have a line of cars waiting? Another smart thing to do is, do a survey of their customers who leave, by physically stopping them and asking them if you can ask a few questions about how they like the services they have just received.

Just because your competitor has a nice facility, or a nice rig to go out and clean vehicles, does not mean their customers like them, it doesn't mean they do a good job, and it doesn't mean they show up on time. If they don't, their best customers should be your first prospects. Whatever you do, don't just go online and assume that everyone in your area has a website and is easily findable on the Internet.

In the real world it's all about referrals and who you know, much of that word-of-mouth advertising comes from people not from the Internet. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it.

Car Detailing Explained

Every automobile owner wants to have an auto that is totally immaculate. Per contra, it can be very difficult cleaning all the dust, grease and mud that accumulate on the exterior of your car every day. Car detailing can get rid of all the tough stains on the inside and outside of your car, making it seem brand new.

The conventional method of cleaning your cars entails vacuuming the interior and washing the exterior with soap water. On the other hand, a more comprehensive way to clean your car is by car detailing, as it is the best way to get both seen and unseen systems of your car clean. Not only does car detailing consist of cleaning the obvious interior and exterior of your car, but you can use the mobile steam pressure washers for cleaning the delicate surfaces of your car.

These portable car detailing systems have moderate to high pressure levels that can effectively remove oil, tree sap, grease, hardened mud and other stains from the exterior of your car, without harming or scratching the surface.

Before car detailers started to use pressure washers, they had only two choices available; these were conventional pressure washers and dry steam cleaners. Per contra, both these car detailing cleaning machines had many disadvantages, and did not clean vehicles properly. The Conventional pressure washer had a flow rate of 5 GPM and up; as such, when detailers used them, there was a lot of wastage of water. Additionally, these pressure washers had very high pressures (3000 PSI and more), and when combined with the high flow rate it could cause various damages and scratches to the surface of your car. Therefore, auto detailers no longer use these machines for car detailing purposes.

Even if detailers use dry steam cleaners, there can still be paint damage and scratches left on the surface of your car caused by the low pressure levels. This is as a result of the dry steam cleaners using only five percent of water, which needs continuous wiping and will result in the surface of your car being scratched. Additionally, the dry vapor from the dry steam cleaners is not powerful enough to get rid of dirt and dust that have accumulated on the surfaces of your car's exteriors, engines, wheels and glass.

The best job for your car is a mobile steam pressure cleaner or the old standard hose.

Mobile Car Washing and Detailing in the Age of Scarce Water Supplies

Before retirement, I franchised a company which set up mobile carwashes across the country. In some areas our business did quite well because of water shortages, especially when they closed down the local carwashes due to their water use. Our units used quite a bit less water, and were as efficient as 4 to 5 gallons per car. That surely beats washing your car in your driveway using 100 gallons of water, or even the most efficient recycling carwashes using 8 to 12 gallons of fresh water per car.

Now then, often the municipalities that shut down the carwashes would get complaints from the carwash owners that we were still operating. We would try to educate the local code enforcement, and City Hall that we use quite a bit less water, so we were even more efficient. But in times of level III drought, it wasn't just that, it was also the spirit of the rules, and the cities felt if we were still washing cars, it was giving the wrong idea to citizens that it was okay to wastewater. Now that's a Catch-22 isn't it?

In other words even though we were not wasting water, and that we were the most efficient car wash method, we were still barred from doing business due to perception. And therefore we had to stop. It seems to me this is quite unfair, and yet we had another competitor in the marketplace; waterless car wash companies. They wash cars without using any water, rather they used a solution that one could smear on the car, and then wipe off along with the dirt and dust.

They immediately said that they were the solution, and that we were inefficient because they used no water, and we used 5 gallons. Even though we were more efficient than the carwashes, and even quite a bit more efficient than anyone washing their own car in their own driveway, even with a shutoff nozzle. It just goes to show you that there is a lot of competition in the marketplace for who is the most water efficient car wash. And during level III droughts everyone's water is restricted. It doesn't matter if you are a homeowner, farmer, industrial user, or a carwash, regardless of what type.

Indeed, I expect such conflicts within the mobile car washing community to continue. And there will always be a battle between waterless carwashes and mobile carwashes and mobile detailing companies that use pressure washers to clean the cars - just as there will always be bitter animosity between mobile carwash owners and fixed site carwashes, especially in the age of scarce water supplies. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it.

Auto Detailing Signage Considered - "This Vehicle Being Detailed By" Signs Increase Business

Any entrepreneur who wants to succeed in their small business must consider grassroots marketing tactics. I think we are all familiar with these types of marketing techniques, after all probably all of us have read the popular small business entrepreneurial book "Guerrilla Marketing" by Conrad. Now then, before retirement I ran a franchising company in the cleaning sector, and yes we did franchise mobile detailing units.

One of the concepts that I had put into our operations manual was to remind all of the franchisees that the best new customer to get, would be the car this next door to the one that you are detailing currently. And if you were in a neighborhood, perhaps a high-end section of town, detailing a nice Mercedes, or some exotic sports car, it makes sense that perhaps the next-door neighbor, or another neighbor across the street might also want services.

Not to mention the fact that if you are detailing someone's car in their driveway, there are plenty of people driving by and seeing what you are doing. Therefore it makes a lot of sense to have good signage on your mobile detailing rig, and crisp, clean uniforms. Also, it would be irresponsible in my professional opinion having been in the industry for some 30 years not to put an "A-Frame" sign out by the curb that everyone driving by could see.

"This Vehicle Being Detailed by (Your Business Name and Logo Here)"

And it hardly matters if you are detailing a boat down at the Marina, or an aircraft at the airport. In that case you should put in A-Frame sign on the dock, or a small A-Frame sign in a conspicuous place at the hangar special. Why wouldn't you do that? In fact, whenever I went to visit our franchisees, I would call them on their mobile phone, as I came into town, and I would drive to wherever they were working, on the job site to help them.

It was my way of getting a little exercise, and do something that I really enjoyed prior to becoming the franchisor founder. Often, our franchisees were too busy and in a hurry to put out the A-Frame sign. And yet occasionally they would complain that they didn't make as much money as they had hoped during the month - that they were really busy on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, but they were slow the rest of the week.

Now then, let this be a reminder to you, you should learn from our mistakes, and you should always put out that A-Frame sign to remind everyone in the area who is detailing that vehicle, airplane, or boat; the success of your business depends on it. Please consider all this and think on it.

Make Sure Your Mobile Auto Detailing Service Can Meet Customer Needs

Starting a mobile auto detailing service can be a smart addition for any detailing business. This is a service that addresses a real need that exists among many car and truck owners. Most people would love to bring their vehicles in for regular detailing. After all, this kind of car and truck servicing not only makes their vehicles look good, but helps vehicles last longer as well.

Unfortunately, many people simply do not have the time to bring their vehicle in for detailing. Even on the weekends, when they don't need to bring the car in to work, people often need their vehicles to do other errands. This is why many people keep putting off the task of bringing their car in for detailing. The best way to deal with this situation is to bring the detailing to the customer.

The Right Stuff

While starting a mobile auto detailing service is certainly a good business decision, it does require an investment in the right kind of machines. It's important to note that doing detailing jobs on-site means that you can use many commercial and even industrial-grade machines for effective cleaning. Servicing premises will have ample facilities to deal with water run-off and excess water consumption. The situation is very different when you do a detailing job at a customer's residence. Not only do you need to be careful about excessive water consumption, you also must ensure that the detailing job doesn't lead to excessive water drainage. Residential areas are often not equipped to deal with high levels of water drainage.

The best way to deal with these issues is to invest in the right kind of machines for your mobile auto detailing business. For cleaning exteriors, ensure that you buy pressure washing units with pressure levels of 1500 psi or less. This will ensure optimum cleaning power that doesn't damage the paint or body job of the vehicle. It's also important to use systems that have water flow rates of 0.5 GPM. This offers cleaning power that doesn't harm the vehicle surface and cuts down on excess water drainage as well.

Inside And Outside

Mobile auto detailing requires more than just exterior cleaning. It's also important to invest in the right kind of mobile car wash equipment for vehicle interiors as well. For cleaning carpets and upholstery, it's best to use car wash machines and carpet cleaners that use less water and more suction and extraction power for cleaning. These kinds of car wash products are ideal as they allow the interiors to dry out in just a matter of hours. This can be extremely beneficial if you are working on a deadline. The low water usage also means the interiors will dry out completely and there will be a reduced risk of germs growing in the damp material.

It's clear that a mobile auto detailing service is a great way to deliver a service that many customers would really find beneficial. It is vital to invest in the right mobile car wash equipment for the job. Using eco-friendly car wash products as well as car wash machines with low water consumption can be very beneficial to your detailing business.

Car Detailing: 5 Must-Ask Questions for Your Detailer

For most car owners, their car is an investment as well as a source of pride and joy. You don't want to drive a vehicle that performs poorly and looks dirty, that's why you want to make sure that you pick only the best car detailing specialists to take care of it. At the same time, an automobile detailing job can cost you a significant sum, so you want to get your money's worth in terms of cleaning quality.

With so many detailing specialists and car cleaning technologies to choose from, it can be pretty difficult for you to assess whether or not the specialist you chose can deliver on his words and give your car the cleaning it deserves. After all, it pays to have a lasting relationship with one trusted detailer instead of shopping for a new one every time you are dissatisfied with the results of the job.

As a car owner, it's important for you to know just what car detailing means and what it can do for your vehicle. It's definitely not the same as the typical wash you give your vehicle in the driveway every weekend, nor is it simply vacuuming the interior of your car to get rid of the dust and dirt. Bringing your car over to an automobile detailing facility means giving your car a thorough rejuvenation to make it squeaky clean and restore its showroom shine.

To find out if your car detailing specialist is the right man for the job, you can ask him these five all-important questions:

How much does automobile detailing cost and what's included in the package? For most car owners, cost is the number one concern that will tip the scales in favor of one detailer or another. You might be paying a modest fee at one detail shop, but the services might fall short of what your car really needs. Read the fine print and find out exactly what it is that you are paying for.
What cleaning method is best for my car? Different cars require different cleaning techniques, but sometimes it's also up to the car owner to choose which one he would like to avail of. Some car owners are also concerned about whether the car cleaning service they get is eco-friendly and chemical-free.
Do you offer mobile detailing? Why bring your car to the detailer when you can have it serviced right in the comfort of your own home? Some specialists offer mobile detailing services to provide their customers convenience and peace of mind, as the latter can watch their car getting professionally cleaned.
How long do the effects of the treatment last? You don't want to pay for a detailing service today and have to bring it back for a touch-up next week. The detailer you should choose should be one who offers top-notch and long-lasting clean for your car. The exterior should be waxed, sealed and preserved to maintain that high-class shine for a long time, while the interior should be free of dust and unpleasant odors.
Do you offer any kind of warranty? It's not unheard of for detailers to commit technical mistakes during a cleaning job and accidentally damage the car's finish or rip the carpeting. The most thorough and professional detailers offer warranty for their services to assure customers that they will provide the expected results.

DetailXPerts is the world's first eco-friendly steam cleaning car wash franchise. One of the services we specialize in is automobile detailing. For our car detailing services we use only steam cleaning methods to maintain the beauty of your vehicles and preserve natural resources.

Discover the Benefits of Low Flow Upholstery Cleaning Systems for Auto Detailing

After your car has undergone an intensive cleaning session at a car wash center, you might have wondered how car wash professionals manage to accomplish such impeccable interior detailing results. The answer is actually simple - car cleaning professionals use the best upholstery cleaners. In fact, using heated carpet cleaning machines is considered the most effective technique to deep clean carpets. Let us take a closer look at these versatile upholstery detailing systems and what makes low flow cleaning technique so effective.

Interior cleaning machines that generate heated water up to 210°F soften the most stubborn stains and dirt deposits on carpets and seats. The super-heated hot water ejected by these upholstery cleaners is necessary to rapidly dissolve challenging residues for complete removal, resulting in exceptionally clean, fresh-smelling carpets, upholstery, and footwells. Carpet cleaning machines with extraction functions help eliminate and reduce food particles, pet dander, dust mites and dirt deposits on carpets.

Top-selling upholstery cleaners now feature flexible temperature settings. This feature allows you to adjust the right temperature setting for different surfaces in vehicle interiors and different upholstery materials and thus cut down the risk of damage to carpets due to excess heat. This is particularly beneficial when cleaning upholstery fabrics that are sensitive to heat, like wool.

To enable detailing of different surfaces, these versatile carpet extractors are equipped with numerous attachments. A full length carpet wand is available for cleaning full carpeted areas, while an upholstery wand is available for reaching the hard-to-reach crevices within vehicle interiors and upholstered furniture.

Benefits of the Low Flow Feature

The low flow technology is an innovative feature present in the latest versions of upholstery cleaners. It simply means that these carpet cleaning systems utilize a lower amount of water than is generally used by traditional carpet cleaners during the detailing process. However, such low water flow is implemented alongside powerful extraction and enhanced pressure levels to ensure optimal cleaning power is achieved. Here are the amazing benefits of low flow cleaning technology:

Lower water usage helps deep clean carpets and upholstery without making them extremely wet. As a result, the vehicle interiors dry faster. A comparative analysis of drying periods can be summed up as follows:

Traditional carpet cleaning equipment without low flow technology will completely soak carpets. These carpets need up to 24 hours to dry completely.
Non-heated carpet shampooers with low flow technology will allow carpets to dry in six hours.
Heated versions of carpet cleaners that generate hot water will leave carpets clean and dry in as little as two hours, and upholstery dry in as little as one hour.
When an extremely wet carpet is not dried properly, the trapped moisture can lead to foul odors, mold, and mildew development that can affect the air quality in your car. Upholstery cleaning machines featuring low flow technology eliminates such risks.
After thoroughly detailing car interiors, it may not be possible to leave your windows open for a whole day to allow the interiors to dry well. Wet seats also prevent you or your clients from using the car. However, low flow carpet cleaning equipment offer clean and dry car interiors in just a couple of hours. No wonder these carpet cleaners are popular among auto detailing professionals.

As you can see, the benefits of the low flow upholstery cleaners are numerous. These advanced carpet shampooers help you maintain clean and deodorized car interiors with only minimum effort and time.

Daimer Industries is a leading supplier of upholstery cleaners. Daimer provides a complete range of carpet cleaners including upholstery cleaning machines, carpet cleaning equipment and many more.
